1. Start with your own targets
Create your free account and complete the goal setup. Simple Macros uses your answers to set a daily calorie target and a protein target. Calories describe the energy in your food; protein is one of the macronutrients, alongside carbs and fat. The app tracks those too, while keeping your two daily targets easy to see.
The numbers in our screenshots are examples, not targets for you. You can review your own goals in the app.
2. Log one meal
Start with something you actually ate. Use the barcode scanner for packaged food, search for an individual food, or take a photo of your meal. Check the food name, amount and nutrition before saving. A label showing nutrition for one serving needs a different amount if you ate two servings.
3. Check your day on Track
After saving, open Track and check the meal and date. Your calorie and protein totals should reflect what you logged. In this example screen, the rings show what has been logged against that account's goals, and the meal list shows the individual foods.

4. Eating out? Build the order first
Open a restaurant menu, choose an item, and customize it the way you would order. Watch the nutrition change as you change the ingredients. Or use the Meal Generator to find orders near a calorie and protein target. A meal target is for that order, not your whole day.
Try Chick-fil-A's menu or find another restaurant. The website tools work without an account; saving meals to your diary happens in the app or a connected AI assistant.
5. Check anything that looks off
- Check the portion and unit first. Grams, ounces, pieces and servings describe different amounts.
- For packaged food, compare the entry with the label on the product you have.
- For restaurant food, check the customization and source date. Actual preparation and portions can vary.
- For a meal photo, check ingredients and portions. Sauces, cooking oil and foods hidden underneath are easy to miss.
Keep going in the way that suits you
You don't need to use every feature on day one. Start with a method you can repeat. Every consumer feature is free, including photo logging, barcode scanning and restaurant tools.
